The highlights along the way
Early on, the trail climbs to the Dörenther Klippen, a striking sandstone formation on the ridge. Its most famous rock is the legendary Hockende Weib ("crouching woman"); a little further on come the Dreikaiserstuhl and Königstein rock groups. The path passes a small war cemetery from 1945 and follows the shady Südhangweg with its old beeches.
Later the landscape opens up at the golf course, and the water shimmers green in disused limestone quarries. The grand finale is the Münsterlandblick – a viewpoint with far-reaching views out into the Münsterland. Through the quiet village of Brochterbeck with its mill pond and past an old lime kiln, the loop closes back to Dörenthe.
Perfect from the holiday apartment
The tour is ideal to start from our holiday apartment on a hillside with garden and balcony in Brochterbeck – either straight out on foot or with a short drive to the car park in Dörenthe. It is at its best on clear days, when the Münsterlandblick reveals its full expanse. Pack sturdy shoes and a snack; benches at the viewpoints invite you to take a break.
